Free Summer Meals for Kids and Teens

Qualifying for free meals for your kids and teens this summer just takes three easy steps:

  3. Consent to meals being delivered to your home.

That's it! Make sure you complete the form in its entirety, but that's all it takes to qualify for this program.

What is Happy Helpings?

A free meal program sponsored by the USDA that helps children and teens get nutritious meals while school is out for the summer. Eligible families can receive a free weekly delivery of 7 breakfasts and 7 lunches for each participating student in the household during all of the weeks of summer break. Meal delivery will begin in June and continue until school resumes in August.

The only requirement of the family is to provide their address with contact information and consent for us to deliver meals to their homes.

  • Our Service Area

    For our first summer of service, Open Hand will be delivering meals throughout Hall and Oglethorpe counties. With additional funding, we hope to expand.

    With no barriers of access based on lack of transportation, kids and teens are guaranteed healthy breakfasts and lunches all summer long. This helps stretch grocery budgets while ensuring kids have the healthy food they need. With the minimal paperwork involved, the barrier for entry is lowered even more.

    Summer learning loss is closely tied to food insecurity: meals help students return to school nourished, healthy, and ready to learn. Additionally, participation often sees stronger engagement with families and enhanced community partnerships.
